Weaving Hand Knotted Carpet is an Art which needs people’s admiration, with this thought I joined my family business of Handmade Carpets and Rugs in year 2000 after completing my graduation (BBA in Marketing) from Antwerp, Belgium.
Although, I formally joined my family business of Handmade Carpets and Rugs in year 2000 but my understanding and learning of carpets (specially Hand Knotted Carpet) began much earlier. Since my childhood I would see in my village and surroundings, how artisan weavers would weave carpets knot by knot and inch by inch on looms made up of wood which later on were replaced by metal looms. I would see in my factory how carpet designers were, sketching, drawing and painting designs on graph paper by hand (as that time there were no computers for designing) using different types of pencils, brush and paints. I also saw and learnt a lot about pre and post carpet weaving process of yarn spinning, dyeing, washing, clipping, embossing, cleaning, finishing and whole lot of other process involved in carpet making. So, one can say I learnt a lot about Hand Knotted Carpets by practically living between them from my childhood.
After working in my family business till year 2012, to gain more knowledge and experience of international business, I moved to USA to work as VP Sales and Marketing in a Los Angeles based company. After 2 years of experience in international market I returned to India and joined back again my family business in 2014.
Since then I have been working on educating people to create awareness about Handmade Carpets and Rugs specially Hand Knotted, the emotional and aesthetic value they carry due to the process and story involved behind every Carpet. After all a Hand Knotted Carpet is an Art made by an Artisan Weaver for our floor which deserves our respect and admiration for it's craftsmanship.
